Dentures in Leeds

Dentures, including dentures secured on implants, replace missing teeth so you can eat, speak and smile with confidence. At our practice in Chapel Allerton we make complete and partial dentures designed to fit comfortably and look natural.

Types of dentures

  • Complete dentures: replace all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw.
  • Partial dentures: fill the gaps where some teeth are missing and clip securely to your remaining teeth. They can have a lightweight metal (chrome) frame or be made entirely of acrylic.
  • Implant-retained dentures: clip onto two or more implants, so they don’t slip or move when you eat.

Dentures on implants

If your dentures feel loose or you struggle to eat certain foods, implants can make a real difference. Small titanium posts are placed in the jaw and act as anchors, holding your denture firmly in place. They also help preserve the jawbone, which naturally shrinks after teeth are lost, so your face keeps its shape for longer. Find out more about implant treatment.

What to expect

  1. Consultation: we examine your mouth, discuss your options and explain the costs.
  2. Impressions and measurements: we record the shape of your mouth and your bite so the denture fits well.
  3. Try-in: you see and try a wax version first, so we can adjust the shape, colour and position of the teeth.
  4. Fitting: your finished denture is fitted and we show you how to put it in, take it out and clean it.

It’s normal for new dentures to feel strange for a few weeks, and you may produce more saliva at first. We will see you again to make any small adjustments, so let us know about any sore spots rather than putting up with them.

Caring for your dentures

  • Clean your dentures every day with a soft brush and denture cleaner, not toothpaste.
  • Take them out at night to give your gums a rest, and keep them in water so they don’t dry out.
  • Brush your gums, tongue and any natural teeth twice a day.
  • Keep up regular check-ups, even if you have no natural teeth, so we can check your gums and mouth.

Our dental hygienists can also help keep your gums and remaining teeth healthy.

Denture FAQs

How long do dentures last?
Dentures usually last several years, but your mouth changes shape over time, so they may need relining or replacing to keep a good fit.

Can my existing denture be fixed to implants?
Sometimes. Your dentist will check whether your current denture can be adapted or whether a new one is needed.

Will I be able to eat normally?
Start with softer foods cut into small pieces and chew on both sides. Most people are eating a normal diet again within a few weeks.

Can a broken denture be repaired?
Many breaks can be repaired. Call us and we will advise you, and we offer same-day emergency appointments if you need help quickly.

Prices are listed on our fees page and 0% finance is available. For independent advice, the NHS has a helpful guide to dentures.
